Thrombosed External Hemorrhoids

What are thrombosed hemorrhoids?
All people have blood-filled sacs that cushion the passage of stool through the anal canal. When these sacs become stretched and enlarged, they are called hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids can occur during or after pregnancy, after long periods in a seated position (such as during long car trips), or because of constipation or diarrhea. Hemorrhoids generally are classified as external (outside of the anal canal), which can be very painful, and internal (inside the anal canal), which can protrude and bleed.
External hemorrhoids can become thrombosed (develop blood clots inside) and become very tender. Large blood clots can… Continue reading

Thrombosed Prolapsed Hemorrhoids – Treatments and Causes

April 21, 2009 Hemorrhoids No Comments

Thrombosed hemorrhoids are mainly internal hemorrhoids that have prolapsed – come out of – our bottoms, the muscles clamp down hard to seal the area off – which is what they are suppose to do – thereby sometimes reducing the blood flow out of the hemorrhoid. When this blood flow out becomes restricted, you may end up with a very painful thrombosed hemorrhoid – a hemorrhoid that lets the blood in, but cant get the blood out as fast. So it swells with blood, the blood develops a clot within it, and the haemorrhoid becomes bluish in color.

Practice Patterns In The Diagnosis Of Pulmonary Embolism Vary, Study Suggests

March 22, 2010

The imaging tests used in the diagnosis of possible pulmonary embolism (PE) vary by physician specialty and geographic region, which suggests that some of this imaging may be inappropriate, according to a study in the April issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology. The most common imaging tests used in the diagnosis of PE include computed tomography (CT) angiography and ventilation-perfusion scintigraphy (VQ scanning)…
