Fortunately, many effective options are available to treat hemorrhoids. Most people can get relief from symptoms using home treatments and lifestyle… Continue reading

What is anal cancer?

Cancer describes a set of diseases in which normal cells in the body, through a series of genetic changes, lose the ability to control their growth. The anal canal is a passage that connects the rectum to the outside of the body.  The anal canal is surrounded by muscles that keep the anal canal closed except for when the muscles are relaxed during a… Continue reading

Polyps in the colon (large bowel)

What is a colonic polyp?

A polyp is a benign (non-cancerous) growth of the lining of the colon (large bowel).
It can be anything from 2mm up to 5cm or more in diameter.
Commonly, the abnormal cells form a small ball (about the size of a pea) on the end of a stalk of normal cells.
The type of cell that forms the polyp varies and is important in determining its potential for developing into a cancer.
